ScreenPointer Examine App

Great app by a great developer

I was looking for something to aid my YouTube video and here it is, after trying out several apps, this came in as a definite best and I instantly went on to purchase the Pro version. The best thing about it are the hotkeys, which work just perfectly for me to live adjust the size/alpha and also the type of cursor ! It is almost amazing. I checked out the other apps this developer has on the appstore and they're quite impressive. I just installed 5 out of the 15 tools he has put out there. What's great about these apps he has out there is that they're really concise and does only what is needed to be done. I almost would like to "follow" him on the appstore if there is a way to do so. This is my second ever review on the app store. I'm a big fan, Hikitsuzuki Gambatte Kudasai !

Great for remote presentations.

Great app. Free version does a nice job with the "spotlight" effect. Great for displaying spreadsheets, project management and data apps where you need to draw attention to a screen area. I paid for the full version to support a great product although I typically only use the spotlight.

Indispensable

I regret not reviewing sooner, but have been overwhelmed with pandemic. A colleague prepared instructions for recording vidoes from PowerPoint, but it relies on features that don't work or work poorly on macOS. I use instead QuickTime screen recording and ScreenPointer for pointing. It works flawlessles. Absolutely indispensable for my online teaching. Thanks!

Doesn't seem to work. Even after purchasing the pro edition, I can only use spotlight which can't be unselected. I can select green laser but it does not show up. It's possible the issue is that this app isn't fully compatible with the latest Mac OS.

Horrible

Does not work whatsoever. Does not come with instructions. This is an utter waste of your time.

Nice pointers, bad implementation

I used to like this tool until I realized that the app will overtake my arrow keys, meaning that pressing arrow keys would simply change the type of pointer instead of performing the original functions of these keys. How am I supposed to change slides while presenting?? (I don't remember running into this problem when I tried this app a few weeks ago. Wonder if this is a poorly implemented new feature introduced in a recent update?)

Great idea however ...

I used the trial version which only has a spotlight (which is fine). I couldnt get it to work with Zoom when I share screen a Power point presentation. The spotlight pointer appears on my screen butis not broadcast to my class online. The other bug is that my mouse cursor ocassionally disappears when I switch back from the Screen Pointer. This makes it unreliable for presentations.

Great app

The spotlight tool is awesome as is the ability to change the size of the circle by scrolling. I lead discussions of artworks and the ability to direct the viewers attention on the screen is critical. Affordably priced compared to some of the others out there.

The free pointer doesn't really give an idea of your product

Can you open to to a short trial period? I don't know if it works in presenation, MS Teams, skype, etc. Moving on.

Exactly what I want

Simple to use. I bought the pro version which gives me more choices. I teach an online class and this really helps.

Really good

Update 2: I clicked "update all" and now I have version 4 but I wish I still had version 3.5 since I've lost features. I respect the developer's right to get paid for his work but I'm sad that I lost some features. Oh well still a nifty app. You still get spotlight for free and that's the most useful. Updating my review to 5 stars -- all three of my suggestions below were implemented! What a great little app for free! ----------------------------------- I'm on High Sierra and it worked fine on my MacBook in my quick testing. Haven't tried multiple monitors. IMHO only one of the options is truly useful -- the spotlight. My suggestions: 1. A preference for the delay. I'd like an option to see the spotlight immediately. 2. A pref for the opacity. It would be nice to dim the background not quite so dark, so you could still see it. 3. A pref to use the key as a toggle -- press once to turn on, again to turn off -- so you don't have to hold it down the whole time. Thanks to the dev for giving us this cool little app!

ScreenPointer doesn't work

When I downloaded this app originally I loved it and leveraged all the time during presentations. However, since the last update its no longer working on my Mac. When I press the option key with spacebar my spotlight never shows up and there is no documentation around this tool for how to fix it.

Love this app!

Way better than the laser pointer feature built into Powerpoint. Works across all apps. Really comes in handy for WebEx, video conferencing, and presentations beyond Powerpoints.

Still doesn’t replace ZoomIt! on Windows

I’m a mac user. But I have to use Windows a lot for presenting. This utility partially fills a gap and thats awesome! On Windows we have a utility called ZoomIt! that works marvelously, because it is completely stealth until you use it. 4 Modes Ctrl+1 zoomes the screen in a freeze frame way based upon the pointer’s location. Its useful for complex applications or rooms with poor quality projectors. In this mode you can click and start drawing. In the drawing mode, keyboard keys will change pointer color, size, and modifiers give you shape draws like arrows, straight lines, circles and rectangles. You can also type stuff on the screen. Ctrl+2 is just the drawing mode.. Everything from above w/o the zoom part. Ctrl+3 is an on screen timer. Its pretty common that we need to take a break during a longer presentation… this gives the audience the 5 or 10 min timer til we get started again. Or maybe you need to give them a questionnaire or the like Ctrl+4 Is the active zoom mode. Its like Ctrl+1, except the screen stays active.

Very promising!

I think the UI could be clearer and more intuitive. That said, once I played around with it and figured it out, I was pretty impressed with how deep the feature set is, how flexible it is, and how smoothly it seems to work. Seems very promising to me! I’ll try to come back and update this after I’ve used it “in anger” while giving a talk.

Does nothing on High Siera

Does nothing. I tried holding/long pressing the keys as I set in the prefrence and saw no change.
